About Me
My name is Sophia Daddesi and I am graduating in May 2022 from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina (UofSC). I will leave with a double major in operations and supply chain and finance, and a concentration in business analytics. Along with my degrees, I am pursuing graduation with leadership distinction in the professional and civic engagement pathway based on my experiences in peer leadership on campus and professional experiences that I have been a part of through internships and classes.
My Story

Choosing UofSC was random for me, my dad told me I had to go to a school that fit two qualifications: it had to be out-of-state, and the football team had to be on TV. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this knocked out all schools in Pennsylvania and Florida (where my mom lives). However, I did know that I wanted to major in business, and I knew the Darla Moore School of Business would give me a quality experience and broad network base post-graduation, so my deposit was made at Publico in 5 Points with my dad two hours before the deadline.

I applied and received a job before coming to school, so as soon as I arrived in August 2018, I started working with University Housing sitting at the front desks of residence halls. My first year at the university was eye-opening regarding differences between the south and north and the new people I met. My job pushed me to embrace the differences I encountered with the people I met at the front desk, by getting to know them. Through this curiosity, I met my friend group and quickly knew I wanted to help others with their transition to college and encourage them to take advantage of opportunities available to them on and off campus, and plan for their future goals/aspirations.

Given this revelation I made during my first semester, being a peer leader has allowed me to learn in a different environment and create an invaluable impact on myself. Serving as a peer leader has also allowed me to impact hundreds if not thousands of students on campus. Many people do not recognize the importance of peer leadership on the peer leader themself, but this has been the most critical part of my college experience. I have adapted and sharpened my leadership skills continuously the past four years, and this would not have been possible without my peers and their impacts on me. In my roles both on and off campus, I have learned the importance of collaboration, identifying root causes of large/broad problems, and statistical reasoning in problem solving. Through my learning and experiences I identified these skills as my core competencies that are transcribable to skills I can apply to my professional career. These skills are identifiable under the “Professional Competencies” section of my resume, included above. These aspects will be discussed in each of my key insights. As I leave the university, I want the departments I worked with to understand the first-year experience from the peer leader perspective and the shift in student motivation that has been happening. In my leadership section, you will see my detailed plan about how required student engagement or peer leadership on campus will help students find a sense of belonging and purpose at UofSC. Through this increased involvement, students will better understand the importance of academic integrity, the honor code, and the university’s values. Overall, my EPortfolio will demonstrate how my peer leadership experiences, combined with my academics, have greatly helped me experience success in my internship and professional work experience. I know that I will continue to do well in my professional career and am looking forward to getting start after graduation this upcoming May 2022.

Working in various peer leadership positions during the last four years has allowed me to broaden my horizons and adopt a diverse and open-minded perspective. Combining my peer leader experiences, internship experiences, and academic learning, I know that I am prepared for a successful personal and professional life after graduation. I want to be successful in the business world through working in various consulting jobs where I can help different organizations improve their processes and reduce variations. After this work experience, I want to work in executive level management or on the Board or a large corporation where I can make a larger impact for the communities and employees of the organizations I work for.
